The first Mr Nokbe Contest in KYF a giant hit


Diphu, Feb 20: Giant or Nokbe has never failed to mesmerise the Karbis since time immemorial and a reference to the most popular hero among the giants in Karbi history Thong Nokbe instantly brings a general sense of awe till today. It is therefore a matter of simple common sense that the idea of our own modern giants competing in the festival would immediately draw crowd. That was what it did when the Trinity Hills Society, an NGO, in association with the Karbi Cultural Society organised the contest of the giants for the first time in the just concluded 43rd KYF. The contest conducted on the 18th February in Longbi Chedu Achetai, Taralangso saw ten participants and Mr. Kamaljit Meitei from Bokajan became the first Mr. Nokbe beating the other contestants in the Body Building Contest. The title of the 1st Runners-up was bagged by Mr. Pitor Phangcho of Diphu and Mr Ajay Sahu of Bokolia walked away with the 2nd Runners-up title.

The winner of Mr Assam Junior Mr Rishi Sharma and Mr. Bidyasing Rongpi, the owner of RSR Gym were the panel of judges for the contest. The invited guests for the evening were Mr. Kangjang Terang, Deputy Chairman, KAAC, Mr. Keshav Timung, Irrigation Board Chairman, Dr. Birseer Hanse, owner of East United Football Club, Shovana Karmakar a Photographer from Kolkata, Mr. Jackiss Teron and Miss Amphu Terangpi, member of Karbi Anglong Fine Arts Craftsman Association. The Judges and the invited guests were honoured with a Karbi Poho.
The other contestants for the competition were Mr. Probin Terang, Mr. Albertson Tisso, Mr. Pratap Das, Amol Bora, Mr. Bapi Nath, Parag Roy and Mr. Shibu Karmakar.
Compared to other winners, the prize money was modest – the Winner got Rs 5000 , the 1st Runners Up got Rs 3000 and the 2nd Runners Up was awarded Rs 2000.
